Volunteer for Disney Tickets
2010-01-02 02:11:12As of January 1, 2010, Durant Main Street is partnering with HandsOn Network and Disney for a great new reward program. HandsOn Network is the volunteer-focused arm of Points of Light Institute. The organizations encourage families to volunteer together, and the program demonstrates how much fun serving can be.
The Give A Day. Get A Disney Day. program celebrates the good work of volunteers by giving each of them one-day admission to a theme park at Disneyland® Resort or Walt Disney World® Resort, free. In 2010, Disney is inspiring one million people to volunteer a day of service to a participating organization in their communities.
Volunteers can go to www.disneyparks.com to search for opportunities made available through HandsOn Network and sign up for a day of volunteer service. As the nation's largest volunteer network, HandsOn Network has 250 on-the-ground volunteer action centers across the country and connects volunteers to more than 70,000 nonprofit agencies that need their help.
Registration for the “Give A Day. Get A Disney Day.” program is now open to volunteers. Go to www.disneyparks.com/celebrate, sign up, and search for a volunteer activity. There's never been a better time than now to start a new tradition of volunteering.
Once volunteers are signed up, Durant Main Street receives an e-mail and must reply within 72 hours. The first day, 29 volunteer requests were received by the organization. Inquiries came from as far away as Fort Worth, TX, with several more in Texas. In Oklahoman, the distant response came from Murray County.
Durant Main Street Program Manager Donna Dow is excited about this new opportunity. “Our Organization Committee came up with this volunteer benefit,” commented Dow. “The Silo Baseball team and parents are planning to offer their service in exchange for Disney tickets for their spring break experience.”
On January 1, a family from Sanger, Texas, was the first to complete their required commitment. “They had a great time, and the children saw they could make a valuable contribution. We are grateful for the assistance, so everybody wins.”
