A Night at the Museum

2009-11-10 13:32:58

The Three Valley Museum will host “A Night at the Museum” on Thursday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. The free event will feature Will Rogers in “The Ropin’ Fool” as well as other short films.

Seven centers with live models replacing mannequins will be showcased throughout the museum. One special guest depiction will be the former Governor and Judge Robert L. Williams. Bobby Dobbins will tell about the journey his ancestors made to Bryan County.
Families are encouraged to attend, and children are welcome in this casual atmosphere. Attendees will sit on the floor to enjoy the live exhibits. Those in need of chairs may ask as they enter. For questions, please call the Three Valley Museum at 580-920-1907.
This special night is one of many leading up to Journey Stories, the Smithsonian traveling exhibit to be in Durant on January 9 through February 19 courtesy of the Oklahoma Humanities Council. Another will be Advanced Genealogy at the Robert L. Williams Public Library. Anyone may register for the free workshop (seating limited) by calling 580-924-3486.
On Saturday, November 21, Preservation Oklahoma and Durant Main Street will host a “This Place Matters” tour highlighting historic structures and adaptive reuse building in Downtown Durant. Special activities are planned in conjunction with the tours including characters from early Durant.
The November 21 tour will begin at the Robert L. Williams room in the public library at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in advance or on site. Buildings included in the tour are the library, courthouse, Opera House, Newman Furniture, Three Valley Museum, and the Bryan Hotel.
