The Tenth Annual Durant Main Street Bass Tournament sponsored by First United Bank was held Saturday, June 27, at Alberta Creek Resort on Lake Texoma. The tournament was rescheduled from May 16 due to high water at the lake. Winners were announced at the 3:00 p.m. weigh-in after a 100+ degree  fishing day with no wind.

Red Rutherford of Durant and Joe Copeland of Roff took top honors. They weighed in 16.34 pounds of fish for first place and a check for $1000. Bill Glasscock and Jay Fuller of Kingston took second place and a check for $440 with a total weight of 13.47. Bill had the second largest bass of the day at 4.53 pounds. This garnered an extra $60.

Johnny Thompson of Calera and Jeff Reynolds of Idabel won third. Their total weight was 13.12, and Johnny had the largest bass of the day at 5.06. He took home $120 for the largest fish, and the team won $180. Spencer McAlester and Homer McAlester of Denison, last year’s top team,  caught a total weight of 10.94 pounds for a $100 check.

Durant Main Street hosts the event on an annual basis. First United Bank sponsored the event. Durant Main Street and C&G Distributing (Nature’s Own & Sunbeam products) furnished the meal at weigh-in. Little Dixie Bass Club shared volunteers and equipment.

Larry Wills, Tournament Coordinator for Durant Main Street, was pleased with this year’s tournament. “We appreciate Alberta Creek Resort for hosting the event. Three teams had men from the B.A.S.S. circuit, and a lot of other very good fishermen participated and provided some tough competition.”
