Dancing with the Stars of Durant is progressing nicely, and names of the dancers have been released. The evening will include fine dining, watching the stars perform, and dancing for everyone. The event, to be held February 4, 2012, at Choctaw Casino Resort’s Center Stage, is a fundraiser for Durant Main Street.

I want to tell you how excited I am about our new Main Street Discount Cards. Initially, they were placed in each runner’s packet for Colton’s Run in hopes that the runners would stick around after the race and do some shopping. Since then we have given a few cards as door prizes to a RV club that was in town. I have received emails from my merchants saying the ladies from the RV club had been shopping in their stores. Registrations are now open for the second annual Colton’s Main Street Run scheduled October 22, 2011. The Run is held in memory of Colton Sherrill, son of Trace and Dena Sherrill. The 10-year old athlete and Main Street volunteer passed away three years ago while playing basketball from an unknown heart defect. For the 5K and 10K, pre-registrations are $20 per runner. Greg Phillips, owner and agent for State Farm Insurance, was recently selected as President of Durant Main Street. Chris Hinds, owner of Hinds Western Wear in Downtown Durant, was injured in Friday's bullriding (6-11-10). He was taken from MCSO in Durant to a Plano hospital where he is recovering. He is in ICU and could be in Plano for a while. He continues to improve. He lost quite a bit of blood, and two blood drives are being planned.

The event held at the Durant Roundup Club Arena was co-sponsored by

January 9, 2010, is the date for the opening of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) exhibit at the Three Valley Museum. The Tenth Annual Durant Main Street Bass Tournament sponsored by First United Bank was held Saturday, June 27, at Alberta Creek Resort on Lake Texoma. The tournament was rescheduled from May 16 due to high water at the lake. Winners were announced at the 3:00 p.m. weigh-in after a 100+ degree fishing day with no wind.

Durant Main Street’s Eleventh Annual Bowling Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at the Durant Bowling Center. Only a few lanes remain unsold for the event, and bowlers are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to avoid being left out.
